Meenakshi mandir

One of the biggest attractions of Madurai is Meenakshi temple. We were eager to experience the mesmerising beauty of the temple.

Activity

On our extravagant tour of South India our next destination was Meenakshi Temple. To reach there we started off from Rameswaram in a cab. It took several hours for us to reach Rameswaram via roadways. We slept throughout the journey of hours.

Activity

We reached Madurai and the plan was to stay at a nearby hotel to the temple. We quickly freshened up to explore as it was just a day trip in and around the temple. We had booked our stay nearby so we can witness the marvellous architecture.

We visited the temple in Cultural dresses as you need to be decently dressed especially in South Indian temples. Few temples have a dress code too. Photography was prohibited inside the temple but we managed to click some lovely pics of gopurams.

After the worship and knowing the story behind the temple. It was time to explore the street shops around. You can easily get everything around including sarees, jewellery, bags etc. We purchased a saree and bags as a gift. You will enjoy the evening

We then reached an old cafe nearby to experience our all time favourite saapad meaning food. We tried authentic south Indian idli sambhar and a famous drink of Madurai Jigar thanda. It was fun relishing local cuisines.
